UAE to build solar power plant in Georgia

The UAE company Masdar will build a 96 MW solar power plant in the Georgian village of Akhali Samgori, located in the Gardaban municipality of the Kvemo Kartli region. This was reported on Sunday in the press service of the Georgian Ministry of Economy following the meeting of First Deputy Minister Romeo Mikautadze with the director of the company and Mohammed Djamel al Ramahi.

"First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Romeo Mikautadze met with Director of Masdar Mohammed Jamel al Ramahi within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week in the United Arab Emirates. <...> At the meeting, the parties discussed the development of a joint project of the Georgian Energy Development Fund and Masdar "Akhali Samgori Solar Power Plant", - it is said in the message.

The company is a global leader in renewable energy and urban development and operates in 40 countries around the world, the Ministry of Economy added.

According to the project, the estimated annual output of a new solar power plant will be 196.7 million kWh. The project cost is about $87 million. The construction of a new power plant will help reduce Georgia's dependence on imported electricity, diversify local sources, and create new jobs, the ministry concluded.

The construction of a solar power plant in the village of Akhali-Samgori became known at the end of December 2022 at a meeting of the Government of Georgia.
