According to him, in the near future factories will be built that will begin to perform two tasks - to burn waste and generate electricity.

The project is called Waste to Energy. Its development is already underway by analogy with renewable energy sources. Mirzagaliyev added that about 6-8 waste incineration plants will be built in total. The authorities will allocate $500 million for these purposes in the coming years.

“There are a number of potential investors ready to develop the waste processing sector in Kazakhstan. These measures will reduce budget expenditures for the liquidation of spontaneous dumps, the construction of landfills, as well as reduce the negative impact on the environment,” the minister said.

He added that the environmental friendliness of plants will impose the most stringent requirements. Kazakhstan hopes that it will be possible to bring waste incineration enterprises to the “green” category.
