India looks forward to record wheat exports this year

India is set to export a record 7 million tons of wheat this fiscal year.
India is estimated to ship seven million tons of wheat this fiscal year (ending March 31st), a record high. Sudhanshu Pandei, Department Head of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, told reporters.
“Indian wheat exports have increased. By the end of February, we had already exported 6.6 million tons of wheat. And there is still a month left, ”the Mint newspaper quotes Sudhansha Pandei on Sunday. The official believes that exports could reach about 7 million tons.
The previous record was set in the 2012/13 financial year, when India shipped 6.5 million tons of wheat for export.
Demand growth noted due to fears of supply disruptions due to the military operation of Russian troops in Ukraine and due to sanctions against Russia. According to the publication, traders said that wheat exports in India are growing amid a large number of requests from buyers looking for alternatives to supplies from these countries.
