Hainan's foreign trade volume grew by 65.4% in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2022, the foreign trade turnover of the Yangpu Economic Development Zone exceeded 18.5 billion yuan.

China's southern province of Hainan traded 43.51 billion yuan ($6.6 billion) in the first quarter of 2022, up 65.4% from the same period last year. Such data is published by the People's Daily newspaper.

The corresponding indicator turned out to be 54.7 percentage points higher than the national average, and also the highest increase in China. The newspaper noted that Hainan continues to follow the path of building a world-class free trade port with Chinese characteristics, comprehensively promoting reform and opening up, and promoting social and economic development in the face of fighting the spread of covid.

A big role in This is played by the port of Yangpu, through which more than 30 foreign trade routes pass. In the first quarter of this year, the foreign trade turnover of the Yangpu Economic Development Zone exceeded 18.5 billion yuan ($2.8 billion).

Duty-free trade is also developing rapidly, especially in Sanya City. Since 2011, when a pilot program was launched to develop a chain of duty free shops in Hainan, the total volume of trade in duty-free goods in Sanya has exceeded 100 billion yuan ($15.2 billion).

Hainan, the newspaper writes, in the first three months this year also actively traded with the countries participating in the Comprehensive Regional Economic Partnership (RCEP, The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP). The province's total foreign trade turnover with them amounted to 14.09 billion yuan ($2.1 billion), up 45.8% from the same period in 2021.
