Construction of a plant for the production of polypropylene has been completed in Kazakhstan

According to the Ministry of Energy, in April it is planned to conduct an operational and demonstration run with further commissioning of the plant.


The construction of a plant for the production of polypropylene in Kazakhstan has been completed, and the Russian company Sibur is interested in its further work. This was announced on Wednesday by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic following the meeting of the head of the department Bolat Akchulakov with the chairman of the board of Sibur Dmitry Konov.

“Issues of developing cooperation on petrochemical projects, in in particular, the construction of a plant for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year, as well as plans to move to the design stage of a polyethylene production with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year. The Minister of Energy noted that the construction of a plant for the production of polypropylene has been fully completed, and today commissioning work is underway,” the message says.

According to the Ministry of Energy, an operational and demonstration run is planned for April this year with operation.

In turn, Konov said that by the end of April, the relevant documents on Sibur's entry into projects for the production of polypropylene and polyethylene would be signed. “In addition, interest was expressed in the joint implementation of projects in the field of gas processing based on raw materials from the Kashagan field,” the press service specified.

Last October, Sibur, the National Welfare Fund of Kazakhstan and KazMunayGas signed agreements on the basic terms of cooperation on petrochemical projects in Kazakhstan. The parties determined the conditions for establishing joint ventures on the basis of an integrated gas chemical complex. We are talking about the construction of a plant for the production of polyethylene with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year, as well as a plant for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year. Sibur's stake in both joint ventures will be 40 percent.
