An engineering company from China completed the construction of a complex structure more than a kilometer long in about a year.

This is the first tunnel on the railway that will link China and Laos in the future. As clarified in the company-contractor of the project China Railway No. 5 Engineering Group, construction began in early June last year. The length of the road between the two states will be 414 kilometers. The characteristics of the track will allow the use of high-speed trains with a cruising speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour on this route.

The total cost of the project, which will link eight countries, is about $6 billion. Given the difficult terrain, more than 60% of the route will pass through bridges and tunnels. There will also be 32 stations on the route. The start of train traffic is scheduled for 2021.

As the Minister of Public Works and Transport of Laos Bunchan Sithavong previously noted, the future railway will create new opportunities for the development of the free trade zone and the economy of the ASEAN member countries.
