Today, November 19, is World Philosophy Day. This day is celebrated in more than 70 UNESCO member countries around the world.

About the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought of every culture and every person, we asked the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Doctor of Philosophy and member of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Alexandra Ochirova.

“Philosophy is the basic basis for the search for knowledge of truth, on the one hand. On the other hand, getting answers to questions that a person had when mastering the world, comprehending himself, as well as societies, civilizations and states.

The human dimension has always been present in history. A person comprehended his every step, formed knowledge, and after this, new pictures of the world consistently arose.

Modern humanitarian knowledge, unfortunately, has lost the integrity with which ancient philosophy approached the issues of being, space, time and the meaning of human life,” said Alexandra Ochirova .

The celebration of World Philosophy Day was approved by UNESCO in 2002. This day is celebrated every third Thursday of November. UNESCO proposed to hold the World Philosophy Day on an annual basis in order to introduce the world community to the wealth of philosophical thought at the global level. The purpose of the day is to acquaint people with the philosophical heritage, bring new ideas to everyday thinking and stimulate public debate among intellectuals and civil society about the challenges facing society today.
