On September 21, 2021, a solemn reception was held at the site of the GlavUpDK Cultural Center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in honor of the International Day of Peace, approved by the UN 40 years ago.

The reception was attended by prominent public and scientific figures, representatives of international organizations of the UN, UNESCO, FAO, SCO, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions of foreign states in the Russian Federation.

“When four years ago we held the First Congress of the Assembly of Peoples Eurasia, we were driven by one common ardent desire - to preserve this world. More than two thousand people from 67 countries of the world dreamed of the same thing - that our children and grandchildren live under a peaceful sky. And now, when we become closer, clearer and dearer to each other, this desire only intensifies. Working for the sake of peace is the highest mission and our common goal,” said Andrey Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, opening the event.

He read the greetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the event.
< br> “Over the past years, the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly has become an authoritative non-governmental organization. Its activities contribute to the strengthening of friendship, trust and mutual understanding in our common Eurasian space, the development of a broad intercultural and interfaith dialogue.

Today's reception, timed to coincide with the International Day of Peace, testifies to the growing prestige of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly. It brought together representatives of state structures and international organizations, diplomatic missions, business circles, the general public - all those who seek to contribute to the promotion of the values of peace,” Sergei Lavrov said in his greeting, in particular.

On behalf of United Nations Organization, the participants were welcomed by the Deputy Director of the UN Information Center in the Russian Federation Vladimir Pavinsky.

“Peace is not a naive dream. This is the light in the darkness. A light that guides us on the only path to a better future for humanity. Let's walk the path of peace as if our lives depended on it. Because it's really so,” Vladimir Pavinsky quoted UN Secretary General António Guterres.

The action that has become traditional for a reception in honor of the Day of Peace demonstrated the desire for peace. The guests and the organizers of the evening rang the bells at the same time, thus showing their readiness to make every effort in the cause of world peace.

Recall that the International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981. In 2001, the UN General Assembly decided that starting from 2002, this day will be celebrated annually on September 21st. The solemn date has been declared the day of renunciation of violence and ceasefire, the day of strengthening the ideals of peace among all countries and peoples.

The International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly” annually holds a Gala Reception in honor of the International Day of Peace.
