March 12 The State Museum of Oriental Art presents the exhibition “Saora. Tribe. India”, dedicated to the memory of the orientalist-Indologist Lyudmila Vasilievna Savelieva. The exposition was created based on the materials of the expeditions of the ethnographer Alexei Ivanov. The exhibition, presented in three halls, will feature 70 photographs taken by a young photographer Anton Malkov, who managed to feel and convey the identity of the tribe, whose traditions and customs have not changed for centuries. Thematically, each room tells about one aspect of the study of the ethnography of the people: anthropometry, life and traditions. March 11 at the State Museum of Oriental Art opens the exhibition "About Chukotka with a chisel and ink." The exhibition will feature 90 works of art from the storerooms of the Museum Center "Heritage of Chukotka" (Anadyr): 38 sculptures from the bone of a walrus and a whale, 26 walrus tusks with plot images and 26 paintings. The exposition will include one more exhibit, the delivery of which to the Museum of the East did not take ten hours of flight. This is a model of a sailing schooner, made, as the researchers suggest, by one of the founders of modern Chukchi bone carving, the carver Gemauge. Currently, a sailboat made of walrus tusk and whalebone is kept in the collection of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Arts. On February 28, the State Museum of Oriental Art presents the conference “Intellectual Heritage of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and Modernity” and an exhibition within the framework of the conference “Babur-name. Miniature from the collection of the Museum of the East. The conference is expected to discuss a wide range of issues covering the activities of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, his political, literary and philosophical heritage, as well as the influence of Turkic-Muslim culture on social thought, spiritual values and ideological foundations of the peoples of Central and South Asia. Within the framework of the conference, an exhibition of the unique manuscript "Babur-name" of the 16th century is planned. with famous miniatures from the collection of the Museum of the East. The conference will be attended by leading scientists and researchers from Russia, Uzbekistan, India, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps in Moscow. The main goal of the conference is the development of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches in understanding and describing the political and intellectual activities of a historical personality in the context of the modern anthropocentric paradigm of humanitarian knowledge. Within the framework of the conference, an exhibition “Babur-name. Miniature from the collection of the Museum of the East. The miniatures of the manuscript "Babur-name" are one of the pearls of the collection of the State Museum of Oriental Art - a magnificent example of the early Mughal school of Indian miniatures. 57 sheets contain 69 miniatures depicting everyday and genre scenes - court feasts, hunting, military operations, as well as the flora and fauna of India - illustrations for the notes of the founder of the Mughal Empire, Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur (1483-1530). A talented commander and ruler, Babur was a well-educated man of his time. In the book of memoirs, he collected historical and biographical notes, ethnographic and geographical information about the lands of Central Asia, Afghanistan and India, his instructions and confessions, documents and letters.
